
DHAKA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - A worker was rescued alive after being slipped into nearly 30 feet underground while working on a septic tank in Dinajpur, following a prompt response coordinated through the National Emergency Service 999.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 am today in Dakshin Maheshpur area under Kaharol police station in Dinajpur district.
According to 999 sources, a caller informed the emergency helpline that two workers were trapped underground due to a sudden landslide while working on a septic tank.
Locals managed to rescue one of the workers, but another worker remained trapped up to his neck and was gradually sinking deeper into the soil.
Attempts by locals to remove the soil were unsuccessful as more soil kept collapsing from the sides, worsening the situation.
After receiving the call, the National Emergency Service 999 immediately informed the Kaharol Fire Service Station for an urgent rescue operation.
The call was received by 999 Call Taker Constable Prant, while 999 Fire Dispatcher Md. Hanjalal coordinated the rescue with the concerned fire service station.
Upon receiving the information, a rescue team from the Kaharol Fire Service rushed to the scene and successfully rescued the trapped worker, identified as Mohammad Azharul Islam (38).
He was later taken to the Kaharol Health Center for treatment.
Leading Officer of Kaharol Fire Service Rezaul Karim, who led the rescue operation, confirmed the successful rescue to the 999 authorities.
