KHULNA, March 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard today arrested Abdul Halim, 36, an active member of the notorious dacoit gang Dayal Bahini, along with arms and ammunition in the Sundarbans.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, said intelligence indicated that a gang member would enter the Sundarbans to supply logistics to Dayal Bahini.
Acting on this information, Coast Guard personnel from Base Mongla and Outpost Nolian launched a special operation around 10 am in the Shibsa River area under Dakop Police Station.
During the drive, Halim, who was responsible for providing arms, ammunition, and other logistics to the gang, was detained. Based on information obtained from him, another raid was conducted around 1 pm near the Takaltola canal under Dakop Police Station, recovering a single-barrel gun and four rounds of live cartridges.
Legal proceedings against Halim and the seized items are ongoing. The Coast Guard warned that operations would continue to keep the Sundarbans free from dacoits and pirates.
Halim, a resident of Shyamnagar Upazila in Satkhira district, had long assisted Dayal Bahini by supplying arms and participating in robbery operations in the Sundarbans, the official added.
