BHOLA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - Chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, MP, today said there is no basis of the claim that Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh in next December.

"It would be extremely difficult to re-enter into politics by denying the reality of the July Movement", he said, responding to questions from the journalists after visiting river erosion-affected areas of Shibpur union and inspecting canal excavation at Alinagar union of Bhola Sadar.

He said Sheikh Hasina has been making various remarks at different times in an attempt to keep the Awami League politically relevant.

"These are nothing more than political statements. There is no factual basis of such claims," he said, adding that it would be very difficult for Sheikh Hasina to return to politics.

"The blood that was shed, the sacrifices that were made and the public sentiment that emerged cannot simply be denied. It is difficult even to imagine doing politics while ignoring those realities," he said.

Recalling the movement two years ago, he added, "At this time two years ago, I myself was in remand. Many others also went through similar experiences."

On Monday, Partho also visited the river erosion-hit areas adjacent to Bholar Khal at Shibpur union and talked to the affected people. During the visit, local people described the prolonged sufferings caused by river erosion and demanded immediate and effective government intervention.

The lawmaker expressed dissatisfaction with the Upazila administration and officials of the Water Development Board over the erosion situation.

Partho said that although the Awami League remained in power for 17 years, it failed to undertake effective measures to prevent river erosion. 

He also said no visible initiative had been taken during the interim government, leaving the people of Bhola to continue suffering from the disaster.

He further said river erosion threatens not only residential homesteads but also agricultural land, educational institutions and other critical infrastructure across the district. A permanent solution, he said, is essential to overcome the crisis.

"We pledged before forming the government that we would protect Bhola from river erosion. It is, therefore, our moral responsibility to fulfill that commitment. 
Once a major budget is approved at an upcoming ECNEC meeting, it will be possible to implement an effective long-term river erosion prevention project," Partho said.

Among others, Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board Zia Uddin Arif, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sajal Kumar Das, Bhola District BJP President Amirul Islam Ratan and its General Secretary Motasim Billah were accompanied the lawmaker.
