DHAKA, Aug 05, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo today observed July Mass Uprising Day with due solemnity, paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives and injured during the July Mass Uprising in 2024. 

The programme began with a one-minute silence at the embassy’s conference room in memory of the martyrs, according to an official release received here.

Messages issued by the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs marking the day were read out.

Addressing a discussion, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Daud Ali paid deep tribute to the martyrs and stressed the need for proper state rehabilitation of the families of those killed and injured in the July Mass Uprising.

Highlighting the importance of national unity and, the ambassador said the aspiration born out of the united movement against fascism could be fulfilled only through building a democratic, discrimination-free and justice-based society.

He said supporting the welfare-oriented initiatives of the present government alongside offering constructive suggestions was a civic responsibility in the historic process of building a new Bangladesh.

The ambassador also praised the contribution of expatriate Bangladeshis, saying the government remained committed to their welfare and has already taken steps to introduce the Probashi Card to facilitate access to public services.

Describing remittances as one of the key pillars of the national economy, he said expatriates had made an undeniable contribution to raising Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves from US$18 billion to US$36 billion.

He urged expatriates to continue sending remittances through official banking channels to further strengthen the country’s economy.

The programme ended with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs, speedy recovery of the injured and continued peace and prosperity for the country.

Members of the Bangladeshi community in Japan, along with embassy officials and staff, attended the programme.
