CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Aug 5, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin today said Sheikh Hasina would not be able to return to Bangladesh during her lifetime unless she serves her sentence.
 
"Hasina says she will come in March, then in April, then in May and then in December. But the year is not clear. Brothers, I want to make it clear that this illegal autocrat will not be able to enter this country during her lifetime without serving her sentence," he said.
 
The state minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion and seminar as the chief guest, organised by Chittagong University (CU) to mark July Mass Uprising Day 2026 at the Social Science Faculty Auditorium this afternoon.
 
Referring to the implementation of the July Charter, he said, "I know there has been some delay. But almost all political parties, except one, signed the 'July National Charter 2025' at the South Plaza of Parliament. The Hon'ble Prime Minister has said the Charter will be fully implemented, including the notes of dissent, InshaAllah."
 
CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr Mohammed Al-Amin chaired the programme, which was moderated by Tahmida Khanam, Assistant Director of the university's Student Counselling and Guidance Office.
 
CU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Mohammad Al-Forkan attended the event as the keynote speaker, while Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr Md Safiqul Islam was present as the special guest.
 
The Vice-Chancellor said, "We all want to preserve the victory of the July Mass Uprising. No matter how difficult the obstacles ahead may be, we want to move forward with the inspiration of July."
 
He also announced that the university would provide jobs to two eligible members of the families of two martyrs of the July Mass Uprising.
 
At the event, CU Museum Director Prof. Dr Mohammad Zahidur Rahman presented a paper on the July Uprising.
