DHAKA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industries today reviewed the ministry’s organisational structure, budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, expenditure plan and ongoing development activities at its first meeting.

The meeting, held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, was chaired by committee chairman Md Abul Kalam, MP.

Officials informed the committee that the Ministry of Industries currently oversees 14 organisations, including four corporations, six departments/agencies, two boards and two foundations, which are playing a significant role in industrialisation, industrial management, quality control, technological advancement, skills development and the promotion of small, cottage, micro and medium enterprises (SCMMEs).

During the meeting, the ministry presented a budget of TK 1,691.90 crore for FY2026-27. Of the total allocation, TK 361.02 crore has been earmarked for operational expenditure and TK 1,330.88 crore for development expenditure.

The committee was briefed on sector-wise expenditure plans for the ministry’s secretariat, the Office of the Chief Inspector of Boilers, the Department of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), the National Productivity Organisation (NPO), the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC), the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) and the Bangladesh Accreditation Board under the operational budget, said a press release of parliament secretariat.

Members also reviewed the progress, budget allocations and expenditure plans of development projects being implemented by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), BSCIC, BITAC and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).

The projects include the establishment of industrial parks and industrial estates, warehouse construction, technological modernisation, laboratory development, expansion of training infrastructure and various initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s industrial sector.

The committee stressed ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in budget implementation. It also called for completing development projects within the stipulated timeframe, ensuring proper utilisation of budget allocations, enhancing the competitiveness of the industrial sector, promoting entrepreneurship and improving the quality of public services through coordinated efforts by all agencies concerned.

Industries Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, who is also a member of the committee, attended the meeting along with committee members Biswas Jahangir Alam, Mustafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Monjur Elahi, Md Keramat Ali and Alfaruk Abdul Latif, MPs.

Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, senior officials of the Ministry of Industries and heads of its corporations, departments, agencies, boards and foundations were also present at the meeting.
