BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over Tk 202.63cr in July

DHAKA, Aug 11, 2026 (BSS) – The Paramilitary Force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth Tk 202 crore 63 lakh 49 thousand in different drives conducted in border areas and elsewhere across the country in July 2026.

“The seized goods included 4.254 kilograms of gold, 216 pieces of diamond nose pins, 7.930 kilograms of silver, 13,063 sarees, 2,710 pieces of three-piece dresses, shirt pieces, blankets and bedcovers, 8,886 readymade garments, 2,416 metres of cloth, 15,527 pieces of imitation jewellery and 302,394 cosmetic items,” said a BGB press release issued here today.

The force also seized 864,356 fireworks, 1,751 cubic feet of timber, 221,090 kilograms of coal, 6,446 kilograms of tea leaves, 624 mobile phones, 4,360 mobile displays and 36,170 mobile phone components.

Besides, 20,000 pieces of medical equipment, 71,400 razor blades, 3,700 pairs of spectacles, 47,776 kilograms of cumin, 42,931 kilograms of garlic, 13,329 kilograms of sugar, 12,486 kilograms of fertilisers, 17,479 kilograms of current fishing nets, 367 litres of edible oil/diesel/octane/petrol/mobil, 1,818 packets of pesticides, 694,017 pieces of medicines, 1.070 kilograms of snake venom and nine pieces of touchstone/sandstone were seized.

The BGB also seized 12 trucks/covered vans, eight pickups, three private cars, six trolleys, 55 CNG-run vehicles/easy bikes/autorickshaws, 59 motorcycles, 47 bicycles/vans and 127 boats used in smuggling.

During the drives, the border force recovered nine local/foreign pistols, one rifle, five magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition and seven other weapons, the release mentioned.

A significant quantity of narcotics was also seized during the month. The seized items included 2,110,258 yaba tablets, two kilograms of crystal meth ice, 71 grams of heroin, 1,243 bottles of Phensedyl, 6,526 bottles of foreign liquor, 1,639.5 litres of locally made liquor, 754 cans of beer, 1,806 kilograms of cannabis, 258,386 narcotic tablets/injections, 16,580 bottles of different types of intoxicating syrups and 18,682 pieces of various medicines/tablets.

The BGB also seized 119,141 packets of bidi and cigarettes.
During the drives, 191 suspected smugglers allegedly involved in trafficking yaba and other narcotics and other forms of smuggling were arrested.

Besides, 31 Bangladeshi citizens, three Indian citizens and 81 Myanmar citizens were detained for illegally crossing the border.

Legal actions were taken against the detainees, the release added.
