DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) arrested five people, including alleged drug dealer and criminal Langra Rubel, in connection with a shooting in Pallabi that left two people injured.
The arrested are Hamid Khan, Makhon alias Langra Rubel, Tanzid Ahmed alias Bappa, Parvez and Rabbi.
DB's Mirpur Division recovered a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of ammunition, two magazines, 1,000 yaba tablets and a vehicle allegedly used in the drug trade, said a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release.
The shooting took place around 5:35pm on August 7 in front of Emon's tea stall in Section-11 of Pallabi.
Alamgir sustained gunshot wounds to his head and abdomen, while a passerby, Josna, was shot in the leg.
Following the incident, DB identified a Toyota Premio used in the shooting through CCTV footage and technology.
The vehicle's registered owner, Hamid, was arrested first.
Based on information obtained from him, Parvez and Rabbi were arrested in Kalshi, from where police recovered a Toyota Voxy and 1,000 yaba tablets.
Later, DB arrested Langra Rubel and Bappa from the Beribadh area near Eastern Housing in Rupnagar and recovered the firearm and ammunition.
According to DB, the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a drug transaction. The arrested individuals face multiple previous cases.
A murder attempt case has already been filed, while separate cases under the Arms and Narcotics Control Acts are being processed.
The DB operation to arrest other suspects remains ongoing.
