DHAKA, Aug 16, 2026, (BSS)- Experts have stressed the importance of specialized training to improve the quality of services for children with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders in Bangladesh and help develop them into skilled human resources.
They made the observation today at a certificate-distribution ceremony for the sixth batch of students of the ‘Certificate Course on Neurodevelopmental Disorder,’ organized by the Institute of Pediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA).

Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) Professor Dr FM Siddique attended the event as the chief guest with IPNA Director Professor Dr. Kazi Ashraful Islam in the chair.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr Md Mujibur Rahman Howlader and Treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhter, among other experts, were present.

Professor Dr F M Siddique said the trainees should utilize their acquired knowledge as a humanitarian and social responsibility. Awareness of neurodevelopmental disorders should be raised among primary school teachers, students and parents.

“Creating skilled professionals and informed parents is crucial for social awareness,” he said.

He said the course would enhance the professional skills of therapists and teachers while also enabling parents to support their children scientifically.

Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader stressed boosting awareness programmes in educational institutions urging families to take effective measures to prevent excessive mobile phone use among children.

Professor Dr. Nahrin Akhter emphasized proper care of mothers and children during pregnancy, necessary tests and examinations, and awareness about disease prevention. 

Professor Dr. Kazi Ashraful Islam handed over certificates to the students who successfully completed the course and urged them to apply the knowledge gained through the training at the grassroots level to help improve the quality of life of children.

Professor Dr. Syeda Tabassum Alam delivered the welcome address and made a presentation.

Therapists, psychologists, special educators and parents of children with autism from different parts of the country participated in this batch. Senior IPNA officials, specialist physicians, teachers and invited guests attended the programme.
