DHAKA, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested 10 people in connection with the killing of garment worker Mitul Islam, 18, at East Bengal Market under Sutrapur Police Station, allegedly following a dispute over obstructing drug use.
According to a police press release, the accused took Mitul to a spot in front of DM Garments on the 14th floor of the market around 8pm on Saturday and attacked him with a sharp pair of garment-cutting scissors and a cutter, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford Hospital), where doctors declared him dead. Sutrapur police identified and arrested the suspects after reviewing CCTV footage and questioning eyewitnesses.
The sharp pair of scissors allegedly used in the murder was also recovered. A murder case was filed with Sutrapur Police Station. Efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the killing, Sutrapur police said.
