NETRAKONA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS)-Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Barrister Kaisar Kamal today proposed an initiative to plant a tree on the day a child is born to preserve the memory of the birth to contribute to a greener future.

“If a tree is planted in a child’s name on the day of his/her birth, both the child and the tree will grow together,” he made the remarks at a tree plantation programme at Kalihala area on Panchgaon road under Kalmakanda upazila as the chief guest. 

Pubali Bank PLC, Kalmakanda sub-branch at Kalihala area on the Panchgaon Road arranged the tree plantation programme.

Urging for creation of greater public awareness to protect trees planted under the ongoing nationwide tree plantation campaign, he said, “Planting trees alone is not enough, local people and beneficiaries must come forward to maintain it. It is not possible for the government or administration alone to protect all the trees along roadsides and in forests.”

Citing the examples of Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, the Deputy Speaker called on the citizens to take responsibility for planting and caring for trees through their own initiatives. He also suggested involving local communities by creating a sense of ownership, as local people would benefit from roadside trees through their timber, fruits and shade.

Barrister Kaisar Kamal thanked the Pubali Bank authorities for supporting tree plantation under the private sector’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

He urged other private-sector organisations to come forward to help to achieve the national target of planting 250 million trees over the next five years in the country.

Kalmakanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer N. M. Abdullah-Al-Mamun attended the programme as a special guest.

Among others, Pubali Bank Mymensingh region Deputy General Manager and Regional Head Mohammad Humayun Mia, Assistant General Manager Pratima Rani Banik, Senior Principal Officer Md Ruhul Amin, Netrokona Branch Manager Md Aminur Rahman and Kalmakanda Sub-branch Manager Subrata Bhowmik were present at the function.
