DHAKA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS)- Mobile courts in Gaibandha and Mymensingh today fined and sentenced three fertiliser traders for illegally hoarding fertiliser violating the government regulations.

In Gaibandha, a mobile court fined the owner of ‘Kunj Traders’, a retail fertiliser shop at Mirganj Bazar in Sundarganj upazila for illegally storing fertiliser.

Sundarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Iffat Jahan Tuli conducted the drive this afternoon and fined Kunj Traders’ owner Krishna Chandra Das.

Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension and police were present during the drive.
According to officials, the drive was conducted based on intelligence information following allegations that fertiliser was being hoarded to create an artificial crisis.

The allegation of illegal fertiliser hoarding at Kunj Traders was found true during the drive. The owner was subsequently fined Taka 10,000 under the Fertiliser Dealer Appointment and Fertiliser Distribution Control Order.

UNO Iffat Jahan Tuli said drives against illegal fertiliser hoarding, black marketing and any attempt to create an artificial shortage and exploit farmers would continue.

In Mymensingh, a mobile court in Ishwarganj upazila sentenced one trader to one month of non-rigorous imprisonment and fined him Taka 30,000, while another trader was fined Taka 5,000 for illegally hoarding fertiliser.

Ishwarganj UNO Sanjida Rahman conducted the drive at Uchakhila Bazar today to ensure proper marketing and distribution of fertiliser among farmers in line with government directives.

UNO Sanjida Rahman told BSS that acting on intelligence information, the mobile court found 600 sacks of fertiliser illegally hoarded at the shop of retail fertiliser trader Nur-E-Alam.

Nur-E-Alam was fined Taka 30,000 and sentenced to one month of non-rigorous imprisonment under Section 12 of the Fertiliser Management Act, 2006, she said.

Another trader, Sri Shyamal Chandra Saha was fined Taka 5,000 under the same law for illegally hoarding fertilizer, the UNO said.
