DHAKA, Aug 30, 2026 (BSS) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested three fugitives allegedly directly involved in the murder of a motorcycle driver in Jamalpur's Islampur upazila in 2018, nearly eight years after the killing.

The arrestees are Md Jalal Mia, 42, Md Nur Islam, 32, and Md Mozammel Haque, 48, all from Aguner Char in Islampur, Jamalpur.

A CID Jamalpur team arrested Jalal from Napiter Char in Islampur on Aug 26, according to a press release.

Based on intelligence information, Nur Islam was arrested from Tongi and Mozammel Haque from College Road area of Gazipur on Aug 27.

According to CID, the victim left home on July 2, 2018, on his rented motorcycle for Bakshiganj market after having lunch with his wife. When he did not return home, his family began searching for him.

Later, his wife identified his body recovered from Pubarband area of Chungrapara in Islampur.

Investigators said the accused lured the victim to the spot and strangled him with a towel between around 7:30pm and 8:30pm to steal his motorcycle before fleeing with it.

The victim's wife filed a murder case with Islampur Police Station on July 3, 2018.

The CID took over the investigation on Aug 19, 2020, following a directive from Police Headquarters.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and obtained images of three unidentified suspects riding the victim's motorcycle. To identify them, around 5,000 posters were put up in Jamalpur and neighbouring districts, while their photographs were circulated through social media.

A Tk 100,000 reward was also announced for information leading to their identification.

Following analysis of intelligence and other information, CID identified and traced the three suspects. After Jalal's arrest, he allegedly provided information about the involvement and whereabouts of Nur and Mozammel, leading to their arrests.

The three suspects later gave voluntary confessional statements before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, according to CID.

The CID said efforts are underway to recover the stolen motorcycle and identify and arrest anyone else involved in the murder.
