IPU Secretary General visits July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Anda Filip today visited the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital along with her delegation.

The Director General of the museum welcomed the IPU Secretary General and members of her delegation upon their arrival.

They later visited different galleries and exhibitions of the museum and observed photographs, documents, memorabilia, documentaries and other historical artefacts preserved there, depicting various stages of the July Uprising.

During the visit, they learned about enforced disappearances, killings and political repression during the previous fascist government, suppression of dissent, the background and course of the July Mass Uprising-2024, and the participation of students, the general public and anti-fascist political parties in the movement, said a press release of parliament secretariat.

Officials of the museum briefed the IPU Secretary General and members of her delegation about the objectives behind establishing the July Uprising Memorial Museum and its activities.

At the end of the visit, Anda Filip signed the museum’s visitors’ book.

Jatiya Sangsad members Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, Mansura Akter and Dr Sansila Jebrin, Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan and senior officials concerned were present during the visit.

Earlier, the IPU Secretary General visited the Bangladesh Parliament. During the visit, she toured different important parts of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and attended a meeting.
