DHAKA, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a special drive to shift buses remaining idle for long time at Mohakhali Bus Terminal to a temporary bus depot at Purbachal.
“The DMP’s initiative is aimed at easing traffic congestion in and around the Mohakhali bus terminal area and restoring discipline on roads,” according to a DMP statement issued here today.
Additional Commissioner of DMP (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman said buses that have been waiting at terminal for long time, are being shifted to a temporary depot in Purbachal in phases.
“We seek cooperation from all bus owners and drivers. A certain number of vehicles have already been shifted, while the remaining buses will also be relocated gradually,” he said.
Rahman said the objective of the drive is to restore discipline in the terminal area and ensure hassle-free movement of passengers, adding, “Necessary facilities have been ensured at the temporary depot in Purbachal.”
The DMP deployed adequate numbers of police personnel during the drive to control traffic and maintain law and order, the DMP said.
It said bus owners and drivers have also been requested to follow the instructions of the authorities and move waiting buses from Mohakhali terminal to Purbachal depot.
The DMP, however, said such initiatives will continue to ease traffic congestion and bring better discipline to the public transport system.
