Order issued to submit wealth statements of Sheikh Selim’s wife, two sons, daughter

DHAKA, Sept 01, 2026 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to issue orders requiring the wife, two sons and daughter of former Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim to submit wealth statements to ascertain whether they have any other illegal assets in their names or assets acquired through undisclosed sources.

ACC Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department Md Aktarul Islam disclosed the information at a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters today.

The ACC said a case was filed against Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, for allegedly possessing assets worth about Taka 13.59 crore that are inconsistent with his known sources of income. The case is currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, an inquiry found that Sheikh Selim’s wife, Fatema Selim, possesses assets worth Taka 1 crore 70 lakh 61 thousand and 355 in excess of her lawful income. To ascertain whether she has any other concealed assets in her name or assets acquired through undisclosed sources, the ACC has decided to issue an order under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, requiring her to submit a wealth statement.

Similarly, Sheikh Selim’s elder son, Sheikh Fazle Fahim, was found to possess assets worth Taka 2 crore 50 lakh 44 thousand and 36 in excess of his income. The commission has likewise decided to issue an order under the same section requiring him to submit a wealth statement to determine whether he has any additional assets in his name or assets acquired through undisclosed sources.

The ACC also said Sheikh Selim’s other son, Sheikh Fazle Naim, possesses assets worth Taka 11 crore 70 lakh 61 thousand and 44 in excess of his lawful income. A decision has been taken to issue an order under the same legal provision to obtain details of assets held in his name or acquired through undisclosed sources.

Besides, assets worth Taka 6 crore 78 lakh 55 thousand without any lawful source of income were found in the name of Sheikh Selim’s daughter, Sheikh Amena Sultana Sonia.

The ACC official said that as the persons concerned could not be found at their current addresses, the orders would be served by posting notices at their permanent addresses.

ACC Deputy Director Md Khairul Haque is leading the investigation against Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and his family members. The other members of the investigation team are Assistant Director Bilkis Akter and Deputy Assistant Director Elman Ahmad Oni.
