DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized foreign cigarettes, mobile phones, mobile LCDs, motherboards, foreign liquor and gold ornaments worth an estimated Tk 97.13 lakh in separate anti-smuggling drives at the international airports in Dhaka and Chattogram.

CIID teams conducted separate operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on August 31 and September 1, while another operation took place at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on August 31, said a NBR press release issued today.

According to the NBR, On August 31, based on a tip-off, officials of the airport's A-shift searched the baggage of two passengers who arrived on Saudi Arabian Airlines flight SV804 from Saudi Arabia.

They seized 231 cartons of foreign cigarettes from passenger Md Mansur Alam and 250 cartons from Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, totaling 481 cartons. The cigarettes have an estimated market value of Tk 19.24 lakh.

On the same day, officials searched the baggage of Tipu Al Imran, who arrived from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG339, and seized 36 smartphones concealed using a special technique.

The seized phones included 19 Redmi Turbo 4 Pro and 17 Honor 200 handsets, with an estimated market value of Tk 15.96 lakh.

The officials also recovered 550 mobile LCDs of different brands and 950 motherboards with displays from the baggage. The LCDs have an estimated value of Tk 22 lakh, while the motherboards have an estimated value of Tk 14.25 lakh.
In another incident, CIID officials recovered three litres of foreign liquor from an unattended handbag found beside the baggage belt. The liquor has an estimated market value of Tk 60,000.

On September 1, CIID officials detained passenger Md Al Amin while he was crossing the green channel after arriving from Bahrain on Gulf Air flight GF248. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of 18 litres of Red Label foreign liquor worth an estimated Tk 3.60 lakh.

Meanwhile, on August 31, CIID officials conducted a separate operation at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram. They recovered 12 cartons of foreign cigarettes, Rowatinex and Sabril medicines, and 100 grams of gold ornaments from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG148.

The seized goods from the Chattogram operation have an estimated value of Tk 21,48,100.

According to CIID, the combined estimated value of goods seized during the operations in Dhaka and Chattogram on August 31 and September 1 stands at Tk 97,13,100.
