DHAKA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested 124 people in separate special drives in different areas of the capital on Tuesday.

Of them, 44 were arrested in Mohammadpur and Turag during special drives targeting crime-prone areas, according to a press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Mohammadpur Police arrested 40 people, while Turag Police arrested four.

Those arrested include accused in regular and warrant cases as well as people allegedly involved in various criminal activities.

Meanwhile, police of Motijheel Division arrested 42 people in separate operations across the division.

Of them, three were arrested by Motijheel Police Station, nine by Paltan Model Police Station, three by Sabujbagh Police Station, 12 by Khilgaon Police Station, three by Rampura Police Station, three by Shahjahanpur Police Station and nine by Mugda Police Station.

Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway.

In another drive, police arrested 37 people in Jatrabari, Hazaribagh and Bangshal areas.

Jatrabari Police arrested 21 people, Hazaribagh Police 10 and Bangshal Police six.

The arrested individuals include accused in regular and warrant cases and people allegedly involved in various offences.

In a separate incident, police of Pallabi Traffic Zone detained a suspected snatcher and rescued a teenager from an alleged snatching attempt in Mirpur on Tuesday night.

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Rabbi, 19.

According to police, at around 8:40 pm, a traffic police officer on duty near Metro Rail Pillar No. 222 in the Mirpur Bangla School Gap area noticed a suspicious auto-rickshaw parked by the roadside.

When the officer approached the vehicle, a teenager named Arko reportedly cried out for help from inside.

The officer immediately intervened and detained Rabbi.

Three other suspected snatchers accompanying Rabbi fled the scene.

Rabbi was later handed over to Pallabi Police Station for legal action. Police said efforts were underway to arrest the three suspects who fled the scene.
