Tanvir four for scripts Comilla's third victory in BPL

DHAKA, Feb 2, 2024 (BSS) - Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam claimed his career-best 4-13 as Comilla Victorians bounced back to winning-way with a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Chattogram Challengers at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.

Tanvir's spin-web was too hot to handle for Chattogram, which eventually were skittled out for 72, the lowest total of this season. Comilla eased past the target with 64 balls remaining.

Only two batters of Chattogram could reach double digits with Tom Bruce making highest 27 off 20, sending the ball across the ropes for four times. Najibullah Zadran made 11. Four batters were out for duck, compounding Chattogram's woe after being put into bat first.

Offspinner Aliss Al Islam who reinvigorated his mojo this season, played a perfect foil to Tanvir with 2-14.

Skipper Liton Das (2) continued his poor form and was out for yet another single digit figure, giving Comilla a poor start. And when inform Mahidul Islam Ankan was dismissed for 5, Comilla were 25-2.

However Towhid Hridoy blasted 13 ball-31 with five fours and one six before being out by Ziaur Rahman. His knock helped the side overhaul the target in less than 10 overs, providing Comilla a massive net run rate boost. Opener Mohammad Rizwan was unbeaten on 16.

The victory put defending champions in third place with six points in five matches --ahead of Rangpur Riders which also had six points in same number of matches. Khulna Tigers still top the table with eight points after winning all of their four matches. Chattogram Challengers are in second spot with eight points from six matches.
