RANGPUR, Oct 24, 2024 (BSS) - The 51st Regional School, Madrasa and Vocational Education Summer Sports and Swimming Competition-2024 was held at Rangpur Zilla School ground in the city today. 
 
The National School and Madrasa Sports Association and Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education organized the games and sports competitions.
  
Acting Divisional Commissioner Md. Azmal Hossain hoisted the national flag and inaugurated the group-wise games and sports competitions by releasing a balloon with a festoon and a pigeon on the same venue as the chief guest in the morning. 
 
Rangpur Regional Deputy Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Md. Shafiqul Islam presided over the inaugural function.
 
Headmaster of Rangpur Zilla School Abul Kalam Azad, Headmistress of Rangpur Government Girls' High School Ferdousi Ashrafi and other officials, guardians and journalists were present in the inaugural and closing functions.
 
The sub-regional level winners of the 51st Sub-regional School, Madrasa and Vocational Education Summer Sports and Swimming Competitions- 2024 of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions participated in the competitions. 
 
The chief guest said that along with education, the need for sports for students is essential. 
 
“With the aim of physical and mental development of students, such sports competition can play an important role in building good citizens through healthy competitive spirit,” he said.
 
Sports teach students the sense of rules and discipline, he said, adding that the importance of sports is immense in building a drug-free and humane society.
 
He advised the students to be equally focused on sports as well as studies and hoped that through such sports competitions, good athletes will be produced in the country.
 
Prizes were distributed among winners of different competitions in the closing ceremony.
