National round of Primary School Gold Cup Football begins

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS)- The national round of Primary School Gold Cup 
Football tournament has begun on National Bangla High School ground at 
Mirpur-2 in the capital on Saturday.

Primary and Mass Education Ministry Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana 
formally inaugurated the national round as the chief guest.

Eight boys' and eight girls' teams, champions of the country's eight 
divisions, are competing at the national round. The finals of the tournament 
will be held at the national stadium in Dhaka on February 27.

On the day, four matches -- two boys' and two of girls' section -- were held 
on the first day.

In the first match of the girls' section, Doharo Government Primary School in 
Shailakupa upazila of Jhenaidah district under Khulna division defeated 
Ishwarganj Government Primary School in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh 
district under Mymensingh division by 3-2 in a tiebreaker after the 
regulation time ended 1-1 draw.

In the day's second match, Jorgacha Government Primary School in Santhia 
upazila of Pabna district under Rajshahi division beat Shahjalal Government 
Primary School No. 37 in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet district under Sylhet 
Division by 2-1 goals.

While in the first match of boys' section, Deiara Anta Bunia Government 
Primary School in Koira upazila of Khulna district under Khulna division beat 
Trishal Government Primary School in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district 
under Mymensingh division by 6-5 in a tiebreaker while Ichaghari Government 
Primary School in Sunamganj Sadar of Sylhet division defeated Shiroil Colony 
Government Primary School in Boalia of Rajshahi district under Rajshahi 
Division by 2-0 goals in the second match. 

Boys' and girls' teams from 65,354 government primary schools across the 
country participated in the tournament. 

After the union, upazila, district and division phase, the national round of 
the tournament is being held with the participation of champions of eight 
boys' and equal number of girls' teams of eight division.
