DHAKA, March 26, 2025 (BSS) - The executive committee of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) has appointed Purushottam Kattel as the general secretary of the federation, according to a SAFF press release today.

Kattel, a Nepalese nationality, has succeeded Anwarul Haque Helal, who recently resigned citing personal reasons after serving in the position since 2015. He will begin his tenure on 1 April 2025.

Before joining SAFF, Kattel, a governance expert, served as the Head of the South Asia Unit at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for 17 years.

"I am delighted to join SAFF as the General Secretary. This is a big opportunity as well as a challenge for me. I have closely observed South Asia ever since I started my career in football. This region is challenging, yet it is growing with many opportunities and I am confident that the future of this region is bright.

"I thank the President of the federation, Kaji Salahuddin, and the Executive Committee members for entrusting me in this role. I am also thankful to Anwarul Haque for his wonderful contribution to football in South Asia. His service to football is truly remarkable," said Kattel.
