DRU chess training program begins

DHAKA, Apr 18, 2025 (BSS)- The chess training program, organized by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in collaboration with Bangladesh Chess Federation, for the DRU members and their children began for the first time at DRU office on Friday.

Niaz Morshed, the first grandmaster of the subcontinent, formally inaugurated this training program at the DRU office as the chief guest, presided by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon. DRU Sports Secretary Md. Mojibur Rahman conducted the opening ceremony. 

DRU general secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel delivered the welcome speech at the event.

Niaz Morshed, the chief guest of the training program, thanked the executive committee of DRU for involving him in this event. He also expressed his excitement for organizing such an event despite the busy schedule of journalists. 

The renowned grandmaster especially encouraged the children of members to take up chess training alongside their studies. He urged DRU to continue such arrangement in the future as well.

DRU vice-president Ghazi Anwar, Sports sub-committee's member Kazi Shahidul Alam, former executive members Anisul Islam, Kamrul Hasan, Sheikh Abdullah, Towhidul Islam, Faizullah Mahmud, Nahid Tanmoy, Monir Hossain, Taskina Yasmin and Golam Mostafa were also present there.

Twelve members and thirty seven children of the organization members participated in the training. The month-long chess training program will be held every Friday and Saturday from 10 to 11 am at the DRU office (4th floor). 

Fide Master Md. Sharif Hossain is the trainer of the training program.
