DHAKA, June 17, 2025 (BSS)—When it’s the matter of partnership record for Bangladesh cricket, Mushfiqur Rahim appears to be unparallel.

Mushfiqur’s name is involved in four of the first five big partnerships of Bangladesh in the Test format. He is again on the verge of breaking another partnership record.

This time his partner is captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, with whom he shared 247 runs in an unbroken fourth wicket to lead Bangladesh to 292-3 on Day 1of the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka today.

After losing three wickets for 45 runs, the two started their journey and put Bangladesh in strong foot. At stumps, Mushfiqur was unbeaten on 105 and Shanto was on 136.

This is the second highest partnership for Bangladesh for the fourth wicket. Mushfiqur's name is also in the first as he and Mominul Haque added 266 runs against Zimbabwe. To create a new record, Mushfiqur and Shanto now need just 20 runs.

At Galle venue, this is also the second highest partnership for Bangladesh. Earlier Mushfiqur and Ashraful shared 267 runs at Galle in a match in which Bangladesh posted their Test best 638.

Mushfiqur scored 200 in that match to become the first double centurion of Bangladesh while Ashraful scored 190. The match finally ended in a draw.

Shanto and Mushfiqur pair can bring it down to second position if they are able to add just 21 runs more.

Bangladesh's highest-run partnership in Tests came from the willow of Mushfiqur and Shakib Al Hasan. The two added 359 runs for the fifth wicket against New Zealand in Wellington. Shakib scored 217 and Mushfiqur made 159 runs.

Mushfiqur and Shanto are 112 runs away from this highest-run partnership. The way the two are batting, it is not impossible to eclipse that.
