DHAKA, June 24, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter Liton Das is on the verge of creating two records as his side gear up for the second and final cricket Test against Sri Lanka.

If Liton plays the second Test, beginning from tomorrow (Wednesday) in Colombo, he will touch the milestone of playing 50 Tests for Bangladesh, a feat that only nine Bangladeshi players achieved so far since they got the Test status 25 years ago.

Liton made his Test debut against India in Fatullah in June 2015. He got the opportunity to bat in just one innings and scored 44 off 45, hitting eight fours and one six.

In his 49 Tests, Liton scored 2881 runs so far at an average of 34.29, including four centuries and 18 half-centuries.

Mushfiqur Rahim (97 matches), Mominul Haque (72 matches), Shakib Al Hasan (71 matches), Tamim Iqbal (70 matches), Mohammad Ashraful (61 matches), Taijul Islam (54 matches), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (53 matches), Habibul Bashar (50 matches) and Mahmudullah Riyad (50 matches) were the nine other batters to play 50 or more Tests for Bangladesh.

The other record that beckons Liton is the number of dismissals in Tests as a wicketkeeper for Bangladesh.

Currently, Liton is level with former captain Mushfiqur Rahim as far as the highest dismissals are concerned with both have 113 in their account.
Both have taken the same 98 catches behind the wicket and effected 15 stumpings. However, Liton has played 48 matches less than Mushfiqur.

Third place on this list is another former captain Khaled Masud Pilot, who played Tests from 2000 to 2007. Pilot has 87 dismissals in 44 matches with 78 catches and 9 stumpings. Nurul Hasan Sohand has 34 dismissals (25 catches and 9 stumpings) in 11 matches.
