BARISAL June 28, 2025 (BSS)- All-rounder Rabeya Khan, known for her immense willpower, dreams of leading the Bangladesh national women's cricket team and aims to bring honor to the country.

Hailing from Barisal, the talented 20-year-old all-rounder earned her maiden call-up to the national team during the 2019 Women's South Asian Games in Nepal.

She made her Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) debut for Bangladesh, against Nepal in the same year.

The leg-spinner took four wickets for eight runs in the match and was named the Player of the Match. This was also the fourth-best bowling figure on debut and the fifth-best bowling figure by a Bangladeshi bowler in a women's T20I.

Speaking to BSS, Rabeya's father, Imdadul Haque Khan, said, Rabeya, the eldest of three siblings, showed a strong interest in sports from an early age.

"Her primary school teachers also encouraged her a lot. After she passed primary school, I enrolled her at the Basic Cricket Coaching Academy in Barisal city in 2014," said her father.

"She was later admitted to the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) while studying in seventh grade," he added.

While studying at BKSP, Rabeya earned her maiden call-up to the Under-19 women's national team and got the opportunity to play in Nepal. She has now cemented her place in the Bangladesh national women's cricket team.

Rabeya Khan's father said her daughter dreams of leading the Bangladesh national women's cricket team and bringing honor to the country.

Imdadul added that Rabeya has already made her mark as a successful member of the national team. She was named Player of the Match during the Pakistan tour, as well as in the 13th National Women's Cricket League (NCL), for her outstanding performances. The leg-spinner also impressed with the ball in a match against Khulna Division.

Commenting on Rabeya, Ejaz Al Mahmud Sujan, director and coach of the city's Basic Cricket Coaching Academy, said, "There are many emerging and talented players like Rabeya Khan in Barisal. With proper encouragement, they too can shine just like her."

Barisal District Sports officer Md Saiful Islam said, "As far as I can see, Rabeya Khan is a shining star in the country and she will be able to play cricket for the country for a long time as a successful member of the national women's cricket team."
