DHAKA, July 1, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh have the chance to improve their
rankings as they take on Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series, starting
tomorrow (Wednesday) at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Bangladesh are currently ranked at 10th, the lowest ranking position for them
in 19 years.
If they can win a match against Sri Lanka, who are ranked fourth in the
series, they will move up to ninth.
Bangladesh will start the series with 76 rating points, while West Indies are
ranked ninth with 77 rating points. Sri Lanka are ranked fourth with 104
rating points.
If Bangladesh win only one match in the series, then they will move up to
ninth by a fraction of a point, even if they have 77 rating points.
If they win two matches, they will remain ninth with 78 rating points. In
that case, Sri Lanka will move down to fifth.
However, Bangladesh have no chance to move eighth position even if they
whitewash Sri Lanka in the series. In that case, the rating points will
increase to 83. The gap with England, who have 88 rating points, will be
slightly reduced.
Bangladesh believed that the ODI format was a strong zone to them as they
rose to number six in the rankings and regularly ranked at number seven by
proving the fact right.
But they hit the massive low of late in this format by paying the price of
the wayward performance over the last two years.
