DHAKA, July 2, 2025 (BSS)—Bangladesh left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam got his maiden wicket by dismissing Kusal Mendis during his side’s three-match ODI series opener against Sri Lanka.

Along with Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanvir made an ODI debut today after successful outing in T20 International cricket. They were 151st and 152nd players for Bangladesh to make ODI debut.

Bangladesh were on top before Tanvir was introduced into the attack with the pacers, led by Taskin Ahmed slicing Sri Lanka’s top order in no time.

However, Kusal Mendis and captain Charith Asalanka started rebuilding the innings with caution and aggression. Tanvir’s strike came at the moment when it looked Sri Lanka were on course of taking the game away.

Kusal Mendis particularly looked in sheer comfort, playing his shots with ease to make the bowlers disarray.

Tanvir who maintained line and length well bowled a slider, but Kusal played for turn and lunged forward for a defence. He missed it and was trapped leg-before. While on field umpire gave the nod, Kusal chose to review decision only to see it overturned. By then he scored 43 ball-45 with six fours and one six.
