WELLINGTON, Nov 18, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - In-form New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell will miss the rest of the one-day international series against the West Indies, coach Rob Walter said Tuesday.

A hobbling Mitchell struck 119 as New Zealand beat the West Indies in the first match of the three-game series on Sunday, with scans after revealing a minor groin tear.

Mitchell is expected to recover in time for the three-Test series against West Indies starting in Christchurch on December 2.

"It's always tough being ruled out of a series early on with injury, particularly when you're in hot form like Daryl is," said Walter of Mitchell, who also scored two unbeaten fifties in the 3-0 ODI series win against England last month.

"He has been our standout performer in the ODI format so far this summer, so he'll be missed for two important matches."

Batsman Henry Nicholls has been called into the squad as a replacement.

The second ODI is Napier on Wednesday and the third in Hamilton on Saturday.
