
DHAKA, June 27, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) celebrated Olympic Day 2026 with due enthusiasm in the capital today
(Saturday), marking the founding anniversary of the International Olympic Committee and encouraging people of all ages to embrace regular physical
activity and healthy lifestyles.
This year's global Olympic Day theme "You Can Do This, Let's Move!", calls on people around the world to stay physically active through sports and
exercise.
The day's programme began at 7 am with a rally from the Bangladesh Army Stadium.
BOA President and Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman attended the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the programme by hoisting the Olympic flag and releasing balloons.
The rally started from the Bangladesh Army Stadium, passed along Airport road, circled the staff road level crossing and returned to the same venue.
More than 1,500 participants, including athletes from various national sports federations, Olympians, coaches, sports organizers, officials from the
Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council, representatives of military and civil institutions, school and college students, and sports
enthusiasts, took part in the event.
Participants received certificates and light refreshments following the rally. Cultural performances and sports displays by school students attracted
considerable attention, while athletes from the Bangladesh Karate Federation, Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation and Bangladesh Wushu Federation staged
impressive demonstration events.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman emphasized the importance of promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect throughout society and called
upon people to adopt healthy and active lifestyles through regular exercise and sports.
The BOA president also praised the government's initiatives for the development of sports in Bangladesh and sought continued support for the
construction of the Bangladesh Olympic Complex at Trishal to help build world-class sports infrastructure.
He said sports play an indispensable role in building a healthy, disciplined and drug-free society, adding that greater participation in sports is
essential to keeping young people away from drugs and other social problems while fostering patriotism, discipline and moral values.
Besides the central programme in Dhaka, Olympic Day was simultaneously observed with rallies and various activities in the divisional cities of
Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur and Mymensingh,
promoting Olympic values and raising awareness about the importance of sports and physical fitness across the country.
Through the celebration of Olympic Day 2026, the BOA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Olympic values, healthy lifestyles and regular physical activity among people across the country.
