TANGAIL, March 5, 2024 (BSS) - A total of 850 hectares of land were brought under onion cultivation in the district during the current Rabi season.

Acting Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Dulal Uddin said, the target of onion production has been set at 9,397tonnes on 850 hectares this current season.

DAE already distributed onion seeds and fertilizer as incentives for the cultivation of onion under the agricultural incentive and rehabilitation program free of cost among the farmers of the district, he added.

The DAE official said, onion was cultivated on 745 hectares of land last year.

Onion cultivation land has expanded this year under government guidance. Through the project under the incentive program, farmers have been given various materials for onion   cultivation free of cost. Onion yield has been good due to constant advice from the DAE officials and favorable weather conditions, Dulal said.

If onion cultivation can be increased all over the country, it will play a major role in filling the shortage of onion in the country.
