Farmers cultivate Boro on 1,29,370 hectares land in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, March 6, 2024 (BSS)- Farmers of the district have completed Boro cultivation on 1,29,370 hectares of land this year.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office has fixed a target of producing a total of 5,66, 678 tonnes rice in all seven upazilas of the district this year.

 According to DAE office sources, farmers have cultivated three varieties of Boro paddy of which Hybrid  on 51,360 hectares of land with a production target of 2,55,773 tonnes rice, High Yielding on 77,835 hectares land with a production target of 3,10,562 tonnes rice and Local Variety on 175 hectares land with a production target of 343 tonnes rice.

 Of the total land,  34,800 hectares brought under the Boro cultivation in Jamalpur sadar upazila while 18,690 hectares in Sarishabari, 20,150 hectares in Melandah, 17,280 hectares in Islampur, 8,720 hectares in Dewanganj, 16,310 hectares in Madarganj and 13,420 hectares in Bakshiganj upazila.

According to the DAE, farmers are being interested to bring more land under Hybrid variety paddy to increase the production. This year, they brought 560 hectares more land under the Hybrid Variety of Boro cultivation, the sources added.

The office said farmers have cultivated 87 varieties of Hybrid, 32 varieties of High Yielding and four local varieties of Boro paddy on the targeted lands.

Deputy Director of the DAE, Jamalpur Zakia Sultana said farmers completed the cultivation timely as availability of Boro seedling, fertilizer and other agriculture inputs and motivational activities of the agriculture department.
