DHAKA, April 20, 2026 (BSS) – The QR code-based “Fuel Pass” mobile application has yielded positive results in restoring discipline at filling stations that has ultimately reduced the long queue of bikes in the capital city.

Following the launching of the app on April 9, long queues at filling stations have been significantly reduced, with many stations returning to almost normal operations in the capital.

The government launched the "Fuel Pass" app pilot to streamline fuel distribution and curb hoarding.

The system is integrated with the BRTA database and allows motorcycles to purchase specific fuel allocations, with expansion to other vehicles planned
Initially launched at 2 Dhaka stations (Trust Filling Station, Tejgaon, and Sonar Bangla, Asadgate) and expanded to 7 districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna, covering 18+ locations.

While visiting city’s different filling stations, long queues at filling stations have been significantly reduced and bikers are getting fuel properly.

Talking to BSS, a biker at Meghna Model Petrol Pump and Service Centre in the city’s Shahbag, said that he is getting a certain amount of fuel by registering the app with valid documents.

As the registered bikes including ride sharing ones are now getting fuel easily, the number of unregistered bikes in the line has also decreased significantly, he said.
In addition, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has increased the supply of fuel oil at pumps from today.

Supply of Octane has been increased by 20 percent while petrol and diesel by 10 percent compared to April last year.

A private company employee Mehedi Hasan, who rushed to Sonar Bangla petrol pump at Asad Gate, said that he registered on “Fuel Pass” app with valid documents and received fuel in a few hours.

Earlier he had to wait for 5-4 hours to get fuel.

A rideshare biker Sohel Rana said, “Fuel Pass” app reduced both uncertainty and sufferings of buying fuel.

“Earlier, I had to get stuck at petrol pump at least 4/5 hours for fuel but now, I am getting fuel easily from a specific pump.”

Meghna Model Petrol Pump and Service Centre Assistant Manager (Sales) Ahmed Rushd said that pressure was high at this pump due to good reputation and its location near Shahbagh.

He said since the launch of “Fuel Pass” app, the pressure has been reduced significantly compared to before.

Fuel is also being supplied to vehicles which are also not using the app, he said.

Rushd also said that those who have registered on the app are getting fuel up to Tk 1,200, while without the app, bikers are getting fuel for only Tk 500.

Another rideshare biker Hasan Rabbi at Meghna Model and Service Centre said, “I can buy fuel for Tk 1,200 due to registration. I need fuel worth Tk 500-600 fuel daily.

As a result, I will not have to stand in line for the next two days that is ultimately reducing pressure in the line.”

A pump owner at Motijheel said that “Fuel Pass” has been introduced at his pump from today.

“We are also getting some relief. Earlier, there was pressure on us due to long lines. Now even if there is a line, the line moves quickly due to the app. As a result, our suffering has also been reduced,” he said.

Pump owners and motorcycle riders said that the “Fuel Pass” app has been introduced at 18 pumps in the capital, which was not enough.

They urged the government to introduce the service at all the pumps in the capital, which will bring sufferings to a zero.

According to energy division, the “Fuel Pass” app is being used to register motorcycles under a pilot project. About 1.0 lakh motorcycles have been registered in the capital, now it was extended outside Dhaka as well.

The government has also a plan to expend the programme for other transports gradually.
