Fakhrul emphasizes effective steps for permanent solution to waterlogging

DHAKA, May 18, 2026 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today directed to take effective and long-term initiatives to resolve the waterlogging problem in the city.

He issued the directive at a meeting held in the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat to review the progress of various development activities being implemented by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

The meeting discussed various aspects of ongoing development activities, enhancement of citizen services, and infrastructure development in the capital.

 Special emphasis was placed on resolving waterlogging, ensuring clean water supply, and establishing a modern sewerage system.

The local government minister said, “To transform Dhaka into a livable and modern city, effective steps must be taken for a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem.”

He also directed all concerned to work in a coordinated manner to ensure a safe and clean water supply for city residents alongside building an improved sewerage system.

He further mentioned that ongoing development projects must be implemented within the stipulated time frame while maintaining quality standards, so that city residents can quickly benefit from them.

The meeting was attended by Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Md. Abdus Salam, project directors of various ongoing projects, and senior officials of the ministry.
