"In today's divided world, museums are playing a vital role in fostering social harmony, mutual understanding and global connectivity," he said while addressing a discussion marking the International Museum Day-2026 at the Bangladesh National Museum here as the chief guest.
A colourful rally was brought out from the museum premises in the morning and paraded through Shahbagh intersection and TSC area before returning to the venue.
Later, the minister inaugurated a special exhibition titled "Agriculture and Nature in Civilisation" at the Nalini Kanta Bhattasali Gallery of the National Museum.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors until May 23.
Highlighting the importance of modernization, Nitai said museums should be made more technology-driven and people-oriented through digital archives, virtual exhibitions and interactive activities so that the younger generation can better understand the nation's history and roots.
He also praised the museum's Liberation War Gallery, saying it presents the history of the 1971 Liberation War vividly to the new generation.
Bangladesh National Museum Board of Trustees President architect Marina Tabassum chaired the function, while State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, Prime Minister's Adviser on Information, Broadcasting and Culture Dr Zahed Ur Rahman and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Mowla attended as special guests.
