Stocks rebound on both bourses

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2025 (BSS) - After witnessing a downward trend in the two sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, inched up by 7.9 points or 0.2% to settle at 5,200 points, as against 5,192 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that although the market opened on a positive note, selling pressure emerged to fade the initial optimism. 

However, buyers regained momentum in the final hour, driving a U-shaped recovery and lifting the benchmark index into positive territory after two consecutive sessions of decline. 

Market turnover also increased by 9% to Taka 4.7 billion as against Taka 4.3 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Textile (14.0%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (13.3%) and Food (12.1%) sectors. Sectors displayed mixed returns, out of which Travel (1.0%), Textile (1.0%) and IT (0.7%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Paper (-0.8%), Food (-0.5%) and Fuel & Power (-0.3%) exerted the most corrections. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 165 advanced, 157 declined and 75 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a positive session today. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) increased by 7.1 points and 15.5 points, respectively.
