RANGPUR, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) - A five-day Divisional SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) Product Fair- 2025 was inaugurated at the Public Library ground in the city on Sunday afternoon.  

The Rangpur district administration and Rangpur District Office of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) have jointly organised the fair.

Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons as the chief guest at a colorful function organised on the occasion.  

Deputy Police Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Saleh Md. Ashraful Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Md. Joynal Abedin and Assistant General Manager of Rangpur BSCIC District Office Nazma Khatun spoke as special guests.  

Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Mohammad Rabiul Faisal presided over the inaugural function.  

Addressing the function, the chief guest said the SME product fair plays an vital role in promoting, expanding, selling and marketing products produced by small and medium enterprises entrepreneurs as well as establishing mutual connections between entrepreneurs and consumers.

A large part of the domestic economy is covered by cottage, small and medium industries, in which millions of people are involved and contributing to keeping the national economy afloat.

"Such industries are developed using low capital, local raw materials, personal skills, creativity, and the labor of family members, especially women, which plays an important role in the equality-based economy and social development in the country," he said.  

He congratulated the participating small and medium enterprises entrepreneurs from different parts of Rangpur division in the fair and wished the overall success of the five-day event.  

Government officials, journalists, entrepreneurs and visitors were present at the event.  

BSCIC officials told BSS that 60 stalls of entrepreneurs involved in agriculture, food, ICT, leather, jute and handicrafts have been placed in the five-day Divisional SME Product Fair from February 23 to 27.  

The fair will remain open to visitors from 10 am to 8 pm every day. Besides, cultural programmes have been organized at the fair every evening.
