Japanese Ambassador meets Commerce Adviser

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2025 (BSS) - Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh SAIDA Shinichi 
paid a courtesy call on Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at his office at 
Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital today.

During the meeting, they discussed issues related to boosting trade and 
investment between the two countries, exchange of experiences and the 
Commerce Adviser's recent visit to Japan. 

The Commerce Adviser said that fruitful discussions were held in Tokyo with 
representatives of Japan's large business groups like NEXI (NIPPON), Mitsui, 
Marubeni, HSBC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry and JT regarding investment in 
Bangladesh, said a Commerce Ministry press release. 

They have expressed their keen interest towards investing in this country, he 
added. 

Terming Japan as one of Bangladesh's important development partners and a 
friendly nation, Bashir said that there is an opportunity to further 
strengthen the bilateral relationship through increasing trade and 
investment. 

At the same time, he called upon the Japanese businessmen and entrepreneurs 
to create more employment opportunities in this country through making more 
investment. 

In response, the Japanese Ambassador said that the recent visit to Japan by 
the Bangladesh delegation, headed by the Commerce Adviser alongside the 
Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) 
and the Governor of Bangladesh Bank would play an effective role towards 
increasing trade and investment.

He also noted that such efforts would strengthen further the bilateral trade 
relations. 

At the same time, SAIDA Shinichi expressed his interest in undertaking 
Japanese language education programme here for the Bangladeshis and thus 
taking more skilled manpower from Bangladesh to Japan. 

Additional Secretary (Director General, Trade Organizations) of the Ministry 
of Commerce Mohammad Navid Shafiullah and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha 
Akhter were present on the occasion.
