Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, May 27, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - today plunged due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities.

DSEX, the broad index of the DSE, again plunged by 41.3 points to settle at 4,678 points as against 4,719 points in the previous trading session.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 2,727.45 million, which was Taka 2,826.16 million at the previous session of the week.

On the sectoral front, Bank (21.5%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Food (13.5%) and Engineering (10.9%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed dismal returns, out of which Paper (-3.2%), Ceramic (-2.2%) and Tannery (-2.1%) exerted the most correction on the bourse today, while Financial Institution (3.8%), Travel (0.7%) and Cement (0.2%) exhibited sorne gains. Out of the 397 issues traded, 81 advanced, 236 declined and 80 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on red zone. The Selective Categories Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell by 36.0 points and 49.9 points, respectively.
