Stocks maintain gaining streak

DHAKA, July 20, 2025 (BSS) - Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), today also witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, advanced by 61.6 points or 1.2% to settle at 5,194 points as against 5,132 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that buyers' dominance remained consistent throughout the session, with bulls firming their control over market momentum until the closing bell.

Meanwhile, investors participation remained resilient with market turnover slightly decreasing by 1.7% to reach Taka 7.8 billion. 

On the sectoral front, Pharma (17.1%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Bank (12.0%) and Textile (9.4%) sectors. Sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Cement (5.7%), Financial Institution (3.4%) and Fuel (3.0%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while Mutual Fund (-0.8%), General Insurance (-0.8%) and Jute (-0.7%) showed the most corrections.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 179 advanced, 142 declined and 76 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also experienced a bullish session today. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) surged by 86.4 and 146.9 points, respectively.
