Stocks witness big jump

DHAKA, July 23, 2025 (BSS) - Stocks today witnessed a big jump as the persistent buying spree across key sectors remained prevalent on the trading board, driven by sustained investor optimism. 

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), charged up by 93.4 points to settle at a 9 month-high of 5,364 points as against 5,271 points in the previous trading session. 

Market analysts observed that the current invigorating market activity has encouraged increased investor participation, driving price appreciation in the majority of scrip and also strengthening the market’s upward trajectory. 

Apparently, market turnover also reached nearly Taka 10 billion-mark after almost a year, rising by 36.6% to Taka 9.9 billion compared to Taka 7.2 billion in the previous session. 

On the sectoral front, Bank (25.2%) issues exerted the highest turnover, followed by Pharma (14.5%) and Engineering (10.1%) sectors. 

Sectors mostly displayed positive returns, out of which Food (3.8%), Telecom (2.9%) and Fuel & Power (2.8%) exhibited the most positive returns on the bourse today, while only Jute (-0.6%) and Engineering (-0.4%) exerted the most corrections. 

Out of the 397 issues traded, 217 advanced, 99 declined and 81 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a positive zone. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 165.8 points and 250.8 points, respectively.
