No action to be taken that harms Bangladesh’s interests: Bashir

DHAKA, July 24, 2025 (BSS) - Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today said that no action would be taken that undermines Bangladesh’s interests regarding the imposition of tariffs by the United States. 

Bashir made such remarks while responding to various questions from journalists at the Ministry of Commerce at Bangladesh Secretariat today.

The Commerce Adviser said that a letter has been sent to the concerned US side on the issue, said a handout. 

He mentioned that the letter outlines Bangladesh’s position and actions based on its capabilities. “We’re now awaiting a response and an invitation. There is no stagnation in our efforts regarding this matter,” he said.

When asked about the appointment of lobbyists by the business community, the Commerce Adviser responded that this is within the jurisdiction of the businesses themselves.

“No lobbyist has been appointed by the government,” he clarified. 

Bashir further stated, “We’ve requested for a schedule for an online meeting. Based on that meeting, we’ll determine our next course of action.”
