CHATTOGRAM, Oct 28, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram Custom House and Chattogram Port Authority have destroyed 19 containers of hazardous goods that had been lying at the port for a long time.

The disposal took place on October 25 and 26, involving 16 containers of uncoated calcium carbonate, one container of orange emulsion, one container of sweet whey powder, and one container of skimmed milk powder.

Chattogram Customs House and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) said on Tuesday that the destruction was carried out to eliminate security risks posed by abandoned cargo. Four highly flammable containers, stored at the port for 14 years, were also recently removed.

To reduce container congestion, the NBR has instructed an inventory of about 6,069 containers (around 10,000 TEUs) and their auctioning. A large portion of the inventory has already been completed, and several containers have been auctioned off.
