
DHAKA, Feb 20, 2026 (BSS)- Commerce, Industries and Textiles & Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said there are sufficient food stock in the country for the month of Ramadan.
The minister said this while talking to journalists at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet this morning.
Muktadir said it’s the responsibility of the commerce ministry to keep the prices of essential commodities stable.
“It’s more important during the month of Ramadan. But after assuming office the present government had very little time to take special price control measures ahead of Ramadan,” he said.
About the plans for Sylhet, the minister said the government would world work for implementing its commitments given during election campaign and described in the manifesto.
The minister said he would give priority to create job and IT-related professions and establishment of an AI center in Sylhet.
He noted that neighboring countries have adopted large-scale digital initiatives and are providing AI training to government officials and employees. If Bangladesh lags behind, others will view the country with sympathy in the current global context, he said adding that Bangladesh must enhance its capacity to compete globally.
The minister said over the next five years, the government will work sincerely, utilizing every single day to strengthen Bangladesh’s position on the global stage.
He said investment is the prerequisite for creating job and it is necessary to improve communication infrastructure, reduce bureaucratic red tape, and ensure political stability to create a supportive investment environment.
The minister also said special policy support is needed for expatriate and domestic investors in Sylhet and work is underway in this regard. Visible progress will be seen very soon.
