JOYPURHAT, May 28, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced ten people, including father and son, to life-term imprisonment for killing a man at Awrah village in Kalai upazila of the district in 2015.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1, Judge Md. Nurul Islam pronounced the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts are - Zainal Mandal, Mozammel Haque and Mofazzal Hossain, sons of late Tafiz Uddin, Mostafa and Mosfar Ali sons of Mozammel, Mahfuzar and Masud sons of Mozammel, Mamunur Rashid, son of Badshah, Samsuddin, son of late Lasir Uddin and Belal Hossain, son of Alamgir. All are residents of Awrah village in Kalai upazila.

The court also fined them Taka 100,000 each, in default, to suffer two years more imprisonment in jail.

According to the case details, on July 5, 2015, the accused were found cutting the soil of Abdus Samad's land and filling their other land. When Samad's two sons Saidul Islam and Shariful Islam stopped them, the accused beat Saidul and Shariful with local weapons leaving them seriously injured.

Locals rescued and admitted them to Kalai Hospital. As their condition deteriorated there, they were admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Saidul Islam died there on July 14, 2015 while undergoing treatment.

Abdus Samad, the father of the victim, filed a murder case at Kalai Police Station.

The investigating officer of the case OC (Investigation) Biswajit Burman filed the charge sheet in the court on November 26, 2015.

After examining the record and witnesses, the court found them guilty.

Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Abu Nashim Md. Shamimul Imam Shamim confirmed the matter.
