World Environment Day observed in Chapainawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 5, 2024 (BSS)- The World Environment Day was observed here today in a befitting manner with the theme "Land restoration, stopping desertification and building drought resilience".

Different government and non-government organisations took various programmes to mark the day. Chapainawabganj district administration inaugurated the day's programmes by flying balloons.

Later, the district administration brought out a colourful procession at 11 am from the Deputy Commissioner's Office with the participation of different government and non-government offices and organisations.  

After parading the main roads of the town the procession ended at the same venue.

A discussion meeting was also arranged jointly by Chapainawabganj District Administration and the Department of Environment at the ICT Lab of the district administration with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ahmed Mahbub-ul-Islam in the chair.  

Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj AKM Galiv Khan attended it as the chief guest while Additional Superintendent of Police of Chapainawabganj Md. Nuruzzaman and Bir Muktijoddha Advocate Md. Abdus Samad were present as special guests.

The welcome speech was delivered by Assistant Director of Chapainawabganj District Office of the Department of Environment Md. Mizanur Rahman.

Besides, Chapainawabganj District Administration, Social Service Department and a non-government organisation “Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society” participated in the meeting.  

The speakers highlighted on the negative impact of pollution like air, land and plastic on the environment.

On the other hand, Chapainawabganj Committee of the Concerned Citizens of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) arranged quiz competition, prize distribution, discussion meeting and tree plantation programmes at Nawabganj City College in the town.  

The discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of the college. President of the Committee of the Concerned Citizen (CCC), Chapai Nawabganj Selina Begum presided over the discussion while Principal of the college Md. Tariqul Alam Siddiqui attended it as the chief guest.
