GAIBANDHA, June 7, 2024 (BSS) - Speakers at a function here underscored the need for taking advance preparation to reduce loss of life and save assets from the damages during the hazard caused by disasters.

"If the advance preparation is taken before coming hazards, the amount of loss would be less, there is no doubt. In this context, the union disaster management committee would have to play a responsible role to make aware the people of disaster prone areas about early preparedness regarding disaster," they also said.

The speakers made the comments while addressing a meeting of Saghata Union Disaster Management Committee(SUDMC) of Saghata Upazila in the district on Thursday.

SUDMC arranged the function under the project entitled "Scaling UP Forecast Base Action and Learning in Bangladesh", being implemented by SKS Foundation in association with Concern Bangladesh with the financial support of ICCO Cooperation.

UNO Md Isahaq Ali addressed the meeting as the chief guest with chairman of Saghata Union Parishad(UP) Mosarrof Hossain Sweet in the chair.

Chairman of Zumarbari UP Aminul Islam, Chairman of Ghuridaha UP Selim Ahmed Tulip, local elite Afsari Begum, ZahangirKabir and Prodip Kumar Saha addressed the function as invited persons.

After elaborate discussion, many recommendations were adopted to conduct public awareness meeting regarding possible disaster with an aim to reduce loss of lives and properties during the disaster caused by seasonal flood, cold wave and drought.
