KHULNA, Jan 17, 2025 (BSS) - A 10-day BSCIC Entrepreneurs Fair-2025 ended here this afternoon with a call to boost the economic condition of the region through increased promotion of its industrial sector.

District office of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) hosted the fair on its office premises adjacent to Shibbari crossing.

A spectrum of locally produced industrial goods, including leather products, jute-made products, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products were displayed at 35 stalls set up at the fair venue.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Saiful Islam attended and addressed the closing ceremony as chief guest with BSCIC Manager Tahera Nasin in the chair.

BSCIC Deputy General Manager Golam Saklain and entrepreneurs Yeasin Arafat Tipu and Minara Shirin also spoke.

Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam said handlooms and cottage goods symbolised the true craftsmanship of the Bangladeshi artisans.

Various artisan communities are scattered throughout the country, communities consisting of people who solely depend on their crafts as a primary source of income, he said.

He underscored the need for hosting more such fairs to protect the handicrafts goods from diminishing further.

Additional investment in this sector was needed to bolster the economic condition of both urban and rural areas and to rid the society from the vicious circle of poverty, he said.

BSCIC Deputy General Manager Golam Saklain said that the fair had been organised in order to increase the visibility of handloom and cottage industrial goods through preserving and encouraging the practices of local artisans.

Later, three entrepreneurs who clinched the first, second and third positions respectively in the fair were given crests and certificates, while representatives of each of the stalls was given certificates.
