KHULNA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) – Member (Customs- Policy & ICT) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Muhammad Mubinul Kabir today said that Value Added Tax (VAT) is one of the most significant components of Bangladesh’s taxation system.

He said that paying VAT properly is a moral responsibility of every citizen to ensure the country’s continued development and prosperity.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar marking VAT Day and VAT Week at a city hotel with the theme “We will register on time, we will pay VAT properly.”

Addressing business persons and the general public, he noted that through collective efforts a stronger and more sustainable national economy can be built.

He said business men should explain to every customer the importance of paying VAT while purchasing goods, and encourage them to comply willingly.

He also emphasized that VAT collected from customers must be deposited into the government treasury on time, following proper procedures.

“VAT collected from customers should not be treated as a trader’s own money, depositing it in the revenue exchequer on time is also a matter of honesty,” he added.

Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin, Commissioner of Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, presided over the event.
Sheikh Md Moniruzzaman, Commissioner of Khulna Tax Zone; M. Safiuzzaman, Commissioner of Mongla Custom House; and Md Sarowar Hossain Chowdhury, Commissioner of Khulna Tax Appeal Zone, among others, also spoke.

SM Sohel Rahman, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT (Appeal) presented the keynote paper while Additional Commissioner Mohammad Selim Sheikh of Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, delivered the welcome address.
VAT-payers Md Fazlur Rahman and Shankar Karmakar also spoke at the event.

Government officials, business men and VAT-payers attended the seminar. VAT Week will continue until 15 December.
