NOAKHALI, Feb 24, (BSS) - The joint forces arrested a person with firearms in the Basurhat municipality area of Companiganj Upazila in Noakhali on charges of extorting money using the illegal left-over weapons of his son in the early hours of today.
A team of the joint forces conducted a raid in ward no-6 of Basurhat Municipality and arrested Abul Hossain Bahar along with a pistol, one single-barrel gun and one cartridge.
Later, the joint forces handed over him to Companiganj Thana Police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, Gazi Mohammad Fawzul Azim confirmed the information.
Police and local sources said that Bahar's son Badhon used illegal weapons to carry out various criminal acts. He had connections and movement with top criminals. Later, he migrated abroad under pressure from law enforcement agencies.
But, he left his illegal weapon to his father. His father was extorting money with the illegal weapons in the area. Based on secret information, the joint forces arrested him by raiding his home this morning, the police added.
